MAN is the mind. The nature of the activity of the mind indicates and confirms the grade in evolution at which he has arrived. The physical man, always engrossed in creature needs and the means of their satisfaction, is the lowest type. Less low is the man whose intellect is active and tries to organise an empire of its own without reference to the other parts of the being; it goes on gathering book-knowledge and is content with its acquisition. Higher is he whose heart and mind have awakened to the existence of a higher Reality in life and seek it in its representations by such physical and psycho- physical means .The highest, however, is the man who devotes himself with all his energies to the realisation of the Reality in himself and proceeds thereto by receptive understanding and deepening experience.
