Of all the objects pursued in life Knowledge is certainly the one most prized. For it is Knowledge that gives Power and Power gives the joy of life. But there is knowledge and knowledge. There is a knowing of the objects in the world, an intellectual understanding of their principles and functions; a knowing also of the processes of Nature in the world-movement. All these knowing's are necessary for an intelligent and effective living, but they prove inadequate in solving the problems of one's existence. The only knowledge that can do this is the knowledge of one's own self. One must turn inward and scrutinise what is the core of all that constitutes one's existence. The whole consciousness-not the mind alone-should be oriented towards the discovery of this basic truth of one's being-the Self. The Self holds the key of life. To know the Self is to know the meaning and direction of all the movements of life.
